Donavon L. Cobb

OBITUARY

Donavon L. Cobb, 86, of Lewes, Delaware, passed away at home on February 21, 2026.

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Richard D. Cobb and Frieda Louise (Ehmann) Cobb. A 1957 graduate of Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, Don earned his bachelor’s degree in Geography from Kutztown University. He went on to complete master’s degrees in Special Education at Temple University and in School Psychology at Millersville University.

Don devoted his professional life to serving children with special needs. His tenure as a special education supervisor with the Berks County Intermediate ended with his retirement as Director of Special Education, Hamburg Area School District. A nationally certified psychologist, Don was honored with the Annie Sullivan Award in Special Education, the first administrator in the region to receive this distinction. His leadership, compassion, and advocacy left a lasting impact on countless students and families.

Don proudly served eight and a half years in the United States Army Reserve as a Military Policeman. He was also a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge and the Consistory, while generously volunteering with Shriners Hospitals.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Moretti Cobb, with whom he shared many joyful years of marriage. He is survived by his sisters, Diane Evans and Debbie Kutz; ten nieces and nephews; twenty grandnieces and grandnephews; and two great-great-nieces.

Outside of his career, Don found great joy in the outdoors. He loved hunting on his property in Schuylkill County, and spending time in Lewes, Delaware. Fishing and bringing family and friends to the beaches of Cape Henlopen were among his favorite pastimes.

Throughout his life, Don carried many titles: compassionate educator, respected psychologist, and dedicated leader. But to those who loved him most, he was simply Uncle Don – a steady presence, a source of wisdom, and a deeply devoted member of his family. He is remembered for his generosity, his quiet strength, and his easy laugh, often shared over a game of darts and a cold beer.

Don will be laid to rest beside his beloved Linda at Pleasant View Cemetery in Wernersville, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 7, at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
