Frederick H. “Fred” McCoy, 81, of Lincoln Park, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025 at Reading Hospital.  He was married to and survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorris E. (Barthold) McCoy originally of Converse, Texas.  Born in West Reading, PA he was the son of the late Warren T. and Helen M. McCoy. Fred graduated from Governor Mifflin High School, class of 1962.

Fred was a 1966 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, 1970 Master’s degree graduate of Temple University, and a doctor of education graduate of Lehigh University in 1987. Fred spent over forty years in the field of education in various positions.  From teacher to assistant principal, principal, associate director of curriculum, college professor of education, to associate dean; he dedicated his life to teaching and helping students and educators in all aspects of their educational careers.  Throughout his life, Fred was an avid and dedicated model railroader and was a lifetime member of the Train Collectors Association. Fred was always a deep thinker and was very analytical of his spiritual beliefs and actions. 

In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his two sons: Matthew and his wife Alice, and Mark and his wife Kelli.  Fred is also survived by his three grandchildren: Quynn, Ian, and Aisling as well as his younger brother David A. and his wife Susan. 

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025 from 10-10:30am with service beginning at 10:30am at Stitzel Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale, PA 19605.  Inurnment will be held privately in Fairview Cemetery, Shillington.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Helping Harvest Food Bank (117 Morgan Dr., Reading, PA 19608) Helping Harvest Donate or to the Reading Musical Foundation (201 Washington St., Reading, PA 19601) Reading Musical Donate.  Stitzel Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.  For online condolences, please visit www.StitzelFamilyFuneralHomes.com.
