Scranton Prep has won four straight District 2 AAA championships, but this season has been a struggle for the Cavaliers.
They started the season with 3 losses, but with the return of quarterback Will McPartland, Prep began to turn the season around, especially in the second half of the Delaware Valley game.
Terry Gallagher, Scranton Prep coach says, One of your best kids that you’ve had probably the history of the school doesn’t play the first few games. And those other kids came in, did everything, gave us everything they had. Sometimes stuff doesn’t fall the right way. You’re scheduled two really good teams outside of the area. Thinking that you’re going to have a healthy group, I we didn’t,
Will McPartland, Scranton Prep Senior, added “At a point where we could let our season go and kind of be that team the other then go and, you know, sort of start on the wrong path. But I think we all knew it was a senior, a senior group and as leaders that we didn’t want to let that happen, especially not our class and our team. “
Prep has won 4 of 5 but still needs a win this week to clinch a playoff berth. The Cavs have the weapons and talent, but they need to keep the momentum going after beating Jersey Shore last week.
McPartland says, “I think our versatility is our best thing. We have guys like Noah Kryz and my brother Braeden, and then Anthony Prince. We can kind of spread it around a little bit. “
Bob Ide question: Tell me about the defense. How well is it playing now?
Mackey Lynett, Scranton Prep Senior answers , “ So we work together really well. Everyone holds each other accountable like you have, like our captains on the defense. Like yelling at everyone, but like, they’re getting yelled at, too. If you mess up, everyone’s just. having each other’s back. Somebody messes up, yell at them, but you pick them up. “
North Pocono has lived up to the pre-season hype. 10 wins in a row dating back to last season. The Trojans average nearly 38 points a game and give up just over 11.
Greg Golhon, North Pocono coach says, “ I think we can play better, especially offensively. I think defensively we’re playing we’re playing great football. I think offensively we there’s still some meat left on the bone as they say. So I think we can get better offensively as we move towards the playoffs.
Evan Wollf, North Pocono Senior added, “ I feel like we’re playing a lot more fluid, a lot more together, a lot more sound. Especially up front. Less confusion up front. I really like how it’s going, honestly.
North Pocono won the Lackawanna Football Conference division one title last week with a win over Delaware Valley. The Trojans will be the top seed in the District 2 AAAA playoffs. But the one thing the Trojans haven’t done is since 2010 is beat Scranton Prep.
Dolhon says, “ I guess two things, Bob, First, thanks for reminding me. We haven’t beat long time I get it. You’re right, you’re right. You know what? That’s the fact. And the second thing is, we’re not a rival. We’re not the rival would mean that we’d win some games in there. We have not done that. So, yeah, you know, it’s a big game for us, but we also have to understand what’s ahead of us in the playoffs, and we have to be smart towards that. And myself, as the leader, I have to understand what the goal is. “
