A teen boy has been hospitalized in critical condition, police said, in a shooting that happened late Sunday night in Northeast Philadelphia.

According to police, the boy was shot in an incident that happened at about 11:07 p.m. along the 3300 block of Aldine Street in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia on Sunday.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital by a private vehicle where he was placed in critical condition, officials said.

A person of interest has been taken into custody in this shooting, police said, as well.

At the scene of the shooting, officials said, investigators collected five spent shell casings and a firearm.

Police did not immediately provide further details on what may have led to the shooting or if the person in custody is expected to be charged in relation to this incident.

Police said an investigation into this shooting is ongoing.
