The Pittsburgh Steelers will not be bringing back cornerback James Pierre. After a breakout season in 2025, Pierre is signing a two-year, $8.5 million deal with the Minnesota Vikings, per Cameron Wolfe.

Former Steelers secondary coach Gerald Alexander joined the Vikings’ staff this offseason, and now Pierre follows him to the NFC North.

The Steelers opened up the day by re-signing Asante Samuel Jr. to a one-year, $4 million deal, seemingly making their choice between their two free agent cornerbacks.

Pierre had a fantastic 2025, allowing a passer rating of just 50.9 when targeted and a target EPA of -5.1.
