SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — It may feel like spring across the region today, but forecasters say a sharp return to winter-like temperatures is on the way later this week.

A Code Blue is declared when overnight temperatures are expected to fall below 20 degrees. The designation activates emergency plans aimed at protecting vulnerable residents, particularly those experiencing homelessness, by expanding access to warming shelters and related services.

Several emergency shelter options will be available in Scranton during the alert:

St. Anthony’s Haven, 409 Olive St., open from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.Weston Field House, 982 Providence Road, opening at 7:30 p.m.Community Intervention Center (CIC), 445 North 6th Ave., open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours if needed.

Officials encourage anyone in need of shelter to seek assistance and urge residents to check on elderly neighbors and others who may be at risk during the cold snap.
