Chad Campbell, now 50, was 14 years old at the time of the crimes.
Investigators said Campbell raped and stabbed his 15-year-old classmate, Cindy Lewis, in Palmyra in August of 1986. Authorities also said he killed Curtis Rizzo, the 17-month-old baby Lewis had been babysitting.
Campbell began serving a sentence of 18 years to life in 1996.
According to the state Department of Corrections, Campbell was granted parole in November and was released Thursday to a structured community-based residential program in Erie County with intensive electronic monitoring.
