ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — SUNY Erie’s South Campus was the subject of much discussion and speculation even before the college decided to find it a new home in the Southtowns.

The college has mostly moved out of the 100-acre campus, which borders the new Highmark Stadium. But 18 months after the county announced plans to sell it at auction, the timeline for that sale remains unclear.

SUNY Erie in 2025 moved most of its South Campus operation to a leased space at 50 Cobham Drive in Orchard Park. College officials said the former campus, located between Southwestern Boulevard and Big Tree Road, was far too large for its needs. A few classes, however, are still being held at the old location, according to James Blackwell, chief of staff to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.
