Human remains found near Millcreek Mall last year have been identified.
Millcreek Police say the remains, discovered in October 2024 in Walnut Creek, belong to Rebecca Hakes of Olean, New York.
Hakes was reported missing in late 2024. Investigators worked with forensic experts, a Texas-based DNA lab, and Hakes’ relatives to confirm her identity.
DNA samples from family members helped solve the case.
Authorities say there were no signs of trauma or natural disease. They thanked everyone involved, including Hakes’ family, for helping bring closure to the case.
