A Stroudsburg man is accused of robbing banks in both Northampton and Lehigh counties, according to authorities.
Jonathan Berrios, 32, stole about $3,200 from the First Northern Bank at 6663 Sullivan Trail in Plainfield Township on Feb. 7, Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta said Monday in a news release.
Berrios is charged with robbery, robbery by threat of immediate serious injury, receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking and making terroristic threats. He was jailed under $500,000 bail.
The DA said Berrios entered the bank, handed the teller a note that said he had a gun, and that he wanted cash. He took the money and fled in a vehicle, authorities said. The vehicle was seen traveling to New Jersey through Easton, and Berrios was identified after police compared photos of him with surveillance photos from the bank during the robbery, the release states.
In addition to the Northampton County bank robbery, Berrios is also charged in a bank robbery in Monroe County, authorities said.
State police charged him with similar offenses for a March 7 robbery at a bank in Chestnuthill Township, according to court records. Police said he handed a note to the teller and demanded money before he fled in an SUV. He was arrested a few days later.
Berrios did not have an attorney listed Monday.
