If you are a young professional from this area or someone who is from out of town you know making connections is important.

Tonight, we introduce you to “YEP,” a growing group that has that very mission — and more. A tale of two members. YEP, connects them, just like it has for dozens of other young professionals.

The group, which stands for Young Erie Professionals, was formed in 2002 by two Erie natives. They were YEP members and invited the Wabtec employee to an event. That was five years ago.

It’s a group that hosts about 50 events a year. Some are free. Others have a fee. But it ranges from learning about beer to bowling, or even karaoke. To the annual charity kickball event, where YEP and other teams raise funds for a different nonprofit each year.

YEP, members are represented by committee chairs, who make up the board. All are volunteer. Dr. Erica Edwards is a cognitive psychologist and the chair of the Recreation and Wellness Committee, overseeing events about exercise.

Along with civic and community engagement, these are also areas that prompt many YEP events.

YEP, started in the early 2000s and has grown in size and footprint. Corry native Dr. Erica Edwards joined just over a year ago, and now she leads YEP as the Recreation and Wellness chair. From an upcoming “town hall” meeting, to the kickball league and other events planned in the next few months information about YEP and their events can be found here.
