A Pennsylvania man who was listed among the ten most wanted fugitives in Ponce, Puerto Rico, has been taken into custody and charged with narcotics offenses in Camden.

50-year-old Domitilo Delgado-Ruiz of Reading, PA, is facing charges of first-degree possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Multi-agency Surveillance Leads to Traffic Stop

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office says in February, they received information that a suspect driving a Toyota minivan had a large amount of cocaine in the area of Penn and North Sixth Streets in Camden. The suspect’s minivan was determined to be registered to an address in Reading.

Detectives from multiple agencies coordinated surveillance of that vehicle in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, leading to a traffic stop in Camden on February 27th.

At that time, detectives identified Delgado-Ruiz as the driver and learned that he was wanted by authorities in Puerto Rico as a fugitive in reference to an attempted murder case. He was taken into custody and remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility, pending extradition to Puerto Rico.

Detectives later searched the minivan and allegedly found more than 12 ounces of cocaine, resulting in the narcotics charges.

Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay said in a press release, “We commend the outstanding work of our law enforcement partners whose diligence and coordination led to the arrest of a fugitive wanted in Puerto Rico. Through persistent surveillance and teamwork across jurisdictions, detectives successfully apprehended a suspected narcotics trafficker and removed a significant quantity of drugs from our streets. Their dedication and commitment to public safety continue to make our communities safer.”

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office thanked the Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Berlin Township Police Department, Berks County District Attorney’s Office, and the Reading Police Department for their work in this case.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
