Flora Cupple

OBITUARY

Flora Cupple, age 101, passed away at home with her care givers by her side on March 14, 2026. Flora was born in Dunmore on November 29 th , 1924 to Michael and Angelina Cupple. The obituary photo was taken at her 100 th birthday party celebration.

She was educated in the Scranton School District and graduated from Central High School in 1942. She continued her education by getting her Associates Degree in Lab Technology from Keystone College. She went on to get a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical and Biologic Science from the University of Scranton. She used her education to work at several labs in NEPA and ended her working career when she retired from managing the lab at Clarks Summit State Hospital after 29 years.

Flora enjoyed traveling to Europe during summers and playing bridge at the Century Club in Scranton. She volunteered over ten years for Lackawanna County Meals on Wheels and American Red Cross.

Her greatest passion was maintaining her family home on Sanderson Avenue. The home was built during the Civil War in 1864 by John Dixson. John R. Fordham acquired the home in 1875. Flora’s grandparents, Peter and Josephine Fricchione, purchased the home in 1922 and lived there until their passing. The home then went to Michael and Angelina Cupple, Flora’s parents. In 1946 Flora, her sister Josephine, and brother Peter took over ownership of the home after their father was killed tragically by a drunk driver. Flora took an active part in hosting countless parties and family gatherings. Christmas season always filled the home with holiday decorations, inside and out. Bridge Club and Quilting Circles spent many hours enjoying the elegant home. To date the front porch is still set up with white wicker furniture and ready to entertain.

She is survived by her niece, Jennifer Steele and husband Alan. Great nieces Katie and Julia Steele and great nephew Matthew Steele. A dear brother, Dr. Peter Cupple and dear sister Josephine Cupple preceded her in death. The family would like to thank MaryAnn Brady CRNP, Pat Vaccaro and her loving caregivers: Dawn Crist, Regina George, Hailey Pinto, Deanna Berrios, Julie Sandy, Cheryl Rozelle, and Kristen Shubrick, for all their support and love. Special thanks to Allied Hospice and case manager Dan Reilly RN.
