Former Eagles running back Boston Scott on Wednesday officially announced his retirement from the NFL.
Scott, 30, hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2023 but became a fan favorite in Philadelphia during his six seasons with the Eagles.
The Saints initially drafted Scott in the sixth round (No. 201 overall) of the 2018 draft out of Louisiana Tech. But Scott never saw game action with the Saints and was signed by the Eagles off their practice squad that December.
Scott played in a couple games that season with the Eagles and ended up playing in 75 regular season games with 12 career starts with the Birds. He also played in eight playoff games with the Eagles.
While Scott was always a reliable backup running back, he really shined against the division-rival New York Giants. Scott was an absolute Giant killer.
In fact, 34.6% of Scott’s career scrimmage yards and 58.8% of his career touchdowns came against New York. In his career (including playoffs) Scott had 10 rushing touchdowns against the Giants. Just five players have had more: Emmitt Smith (21), Leroy Kelly (14), Steven Van Buren (13), Jim Brown (12), Larry Brown (12).
In his NFL career, Scott rushed for 1,295 yards (4.3) and 16 touchdowns and added another 71 receptions for 566 yards and a touchdown. For four straight seasons — from 2019-22 — Scott had at least 54 carries in each season.
