High winds and dangerous conditions on Monday morning led to a devastating loss for a young Erie homeowner. This was a home she bought just last summer after overcoming homelessness. Now she’s starting over again, and the community is already stepping in to help.
Brittni had worked hard to buy her first home after facing homelessness less than a year ago. In minutes, nearly all of her belongings were gone.
If she had been woken up just ten seconds later, she and her boyfriend may not be alive.
She and her boyfriend are now out of their home for at least six to nine months.
The fire took three hours to get under control. Luckily, first responders were able to save all of their pets.
A GoFundMe has been started by loved ones to help. Brittni says that while asking for assistance is hard, she can’t do it alone.
“For everybody to just set the show up, that was the only reason that I didn’t spend that entire night on these. They were the reason that I wasn’t walking around barefoot. They were the reason that I got pants and a jacket. They not only saved my humility, but they stepped in to save my entire family,” house fire survivor Brittni Warus said.
Plans for a benefit are in the works. We will keep you updated as those details come together.
