PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A new kind of relief is coming to families in the Philadelphia region, and accessing it will be as simple as pushing a button.

Vending machines filled with free baby essentials and hygiene products are being installed this month to support mothers in underserved communities.

The “Community Care Kiosks,” created by the Maternity Care Coalition, will offer items such as diapers, wipes, infant formula and women’s hygiene products – basic necessities that can be costly for families already facing financial strain.

Formula alone can range from $28 to $60 depending on the brand.

The nonprofit says the kiosks are designed not only to provide supplies but also to connect families with ongoing support.

“And we just feel like supplying these types of goods to the community allows them to keep money in their pockets like food, and utility bills and it really helps,” said Lonnese Bodison, senior director of programs.

The initiative is funded by AstraZeneca. Four kiosks have been installed so far. One at Temple Women’s Hospital and one in each of the three collar counties outside Philadelphia.

The locations were chosen to help families who may have difficulty traveling to the organization’s Kensington headquarters.

Maternity Care Coalition will hold a ribboncutting ceremony at its Bristol site on the last Monday of March, marking the official launch of the new program.
