HAMBURG, Pa. – Hamburg police say a deadly crash on I-78 is causing significant traffic issues in the borough Thursday.

Pennsylvania State Police say it happened at 4:46 a.m. near exit 30 on I-78 eastbound in Berks County between the Hamburg and Lenhartsville exits.

The lanes are currently closed.

Video shows a tractor trailer and vehicle with major damage. It’s unclear if anyone else was injured at this time.

Borough police are asking drivers to avoid the borough’s downtown due to increased traffic on 4th Street.

Tractor-trailers are asked to stay on the Interstate, borough police said in a Facebook post.

Police said drivers should expect significant traffic issues in Hamburg for most of the morning possibly through early Thursday afternoon.

People are asked to plan extra travel time and to find alternative routes to avoid traffic delays.
