PENNSYLVANIA — A frozen product sold in a popular Pennsylvania grocery store has been recalled because it possibly could contain rodent hair.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on March 16 that Dr. Prager’s Sensible Foods Inc. of New Jersey voluntarily recalled its Simply Nature Spinach Bites because of potential contamination.

The product is sold in Aldi stores. According to the chain’s website, the item currently is out of stock.

Also according to the website, there are 172 Aldi stores across the state.

The recall notice offers no explanation as to how the rodent hair possibly could have entered the product.

According to the FDA, the recall is considered Class II, which means exposure to the recalled item could cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences. The risk of long-term impacts is minimal.

No illnesses or hospitalizations have been reported to date. But according to the Daily Mail, rodent hair in products can create a choking hazard or irritate the mouth if ingested.

In some cases, the rodent hair may also be contaminated with pathogens that can cause a serious infection or rash to emerge.

According to the FDA, the lot number of the recalled 12-ounce product is G25CF-02B. The product number is AL-SP UPC: 099100247992

The recall also impacts Aldi stores in Maryland.
