The Fairmount Park Conservancy has announced a series of free Earth Month activities across Philadelphia parks in April to encourage outdoor exploration and connection with nature. Here’s a look at some of the activities set for April:

The Trolley Trail Run Club will host a 4.5-mile trail run on April 1 in West Fairmount Park, with multiple pace groups along the historic Trolley Trail.

A guided bird walk is scheduled for April 11 during the Second Saturday Hike in East Fairmount Park. This event will explore the Fair Amount Food Forest, with birding instructor Troy Bynum providing a guided look at bird spotting.

Free community paddle boating at Edgewood Lake in FDR Park will take place on April 18. Participants will be able to paddle across the lake and view wildlife, including turtles and ducks.

On April 24, Bailar en FDR! will bring a salsa class and social dance to Gateway Plaza in FDR Park. The event will feature DJ Valentin of Dance Philly and cuisine from Taqueria Morales.

In addition to these programs, several volunteer workday events are planned throughout Earth Month. These workdays include events on April 11 at Lemon Hill, April 14 at Cobbs Creek Park, and April 15 at Belmont Wetlands, offering opportunities to plant, garden, and clean up parks.

An Earth Day–themed volunteer event is set for April 22 at Belmont Plateau (West Fairmount Park) to commemorate one of the nation’s first Earth Day celebrations in 1970.
