Glyn C. Scranton, age 77 of Barry, IL, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at his home. Born October 14, 1948 in Pittsfield, IL, to Truman and Mildred (Wheeler) Scranton he and his twin sister Lynn, were two out of fourteen children. Glyn was first married to Diane Chandler and to that union Glyn Jr. was born. Then he married Mona Couch and to that union Joesph and Daniel were born.
Glyn was a professional logger for over 50 years and started cutting trees at the age of 11 years. He also held a Masters in Automotive, where he not only fixed his logging equipment, he could work and fix anything. He was always tinkering on something. His family was his world and Glyn especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Hobbies included shooting darts, playing cards, and enjoyed going to Tiffany’s restaurant and visiting with his friends.
He is survived by his sons, Joesph (Shannon Ducey) Scranton and Daniel (Rachel) Scranton; grandchildren, Eric Scranton, Adam Scranton, Nicholas Scranton, Dayleigh Coultas and Shelby Scranton; brother, Cecil Scranton; sisters, Dorothy Henson and Maryann Charlton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Glyn Clay Scranton Jr.; brothers, Smithie Scranton, Larry Scranton, Rex Scranton and Gordon Scranton; and sisters, Lowetta Scranton, Shirley Ewing, Paula Gaullier, Lynn Vollmer, Audrey Trabue and Janet Aupplin.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family to the care of Niebur Funeral Chapel. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL, is handling the arrangements.
