Every spring, the hard work of so many talented students is on dramatic (and comedic) display on stages throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. Even if you don’t know any students working on your local high school musical (or one in another community nearby), attending a show can be a great experience for adults and kids.

For families with younger children, high school plays and musicals are a great way to introduce kids to the fun of theater-going. Many of the high schools in the Pittsburgh area produce shows filled with impressive performances, along with beautiful sets and costumes.

Kids can enjoy the fun happening on stage and hear some great music, and it’s an affordable evening out for the whole family. Tickets cost far less than shows you might find Downtown in the Cultural District. So if little ones only make it through the first act, it will still have been worth the trip!

Among the performances happening this weekend: You’ll find “Sister Act” on stage at Canon-MacMillan, while “Curtains (School Edition)” is playing at Butler Area, “The Sound of Music” is playing at Eden Christian Academy,  “Mamma Mia!” is playing at Norwin, “9 to 5” is playing at Thomas Jefferson, and “Peter Pan Jr.” lights up the stage at Cornell School District.

The fun continues throughout March and April, and into early May. So check out this guide to find the perfect show for your family.
