ROBESON TWP., Pa. – The Robeson Township Police Department announced on Thursday that it has been awarded a total of $56,158 in grant funding through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) as part of the Category 4 Local Share Account (LSA) Program.
At the CFA Board Meeting on Wednesday, two critical public safety projects were approved, according to a press release from the police department:
$38,932 for the acquisition of new, updated TASER devices
$17,226 for the replacement of outdated department-issued firearms
Police say these investments will directly enhance officer safety, improve operational readiness, and strengthen the department’s ability to effectively serve the community.
The TASER project will allow the department to replace aging and unreliable, less-lethal devices with modern TASER 10 units, according to the release. Officials say this upgrade provides officers with safer, evidence-based tools to de-escalate high-risk situations, reducing the likelihood of injury to bot officers and the public while aligning with contemporary policing best practices.
Authorities say the firearms project will transition the department from outdating .40-caliber service weapons to modern 9mm platforms. This change will improve reliability, accuracy, and officer confidence, while also ensuring interoperability with neighboring agencies during multi-jurisdictional incidents – an essential factor in critical response situations.
According to police, both projects include equipment acquisition, officer training, and full deployment. Together, these upgrades will result in better-prepared officers, more effective responses to high-risk encounters, and enhanced public safety outcomes.
“These investments are critical to ensuring our officers have the tools they need to respond safely and effectively,” said Acting Chief Jason Rimby. “Modern, reliable equipment not only protects our officers, but also strengthens trust and safety within the community we serve.”
The release says the funding was made possible through the Berks County Category 4 LSA Program, which supports projects that improve public safety, enhance municipal services, and promote community stability and economic growth.
