Darius Slay didn’t pan out with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The veteran cornerback only lasted until December in the Steel City, then decided earlier this week that the one-year, $10 million deal he signed with the team last offseason would be it for him.
Slay joined Jim Rome’s radio show on Thursday and spoke about why he didn’t report to the Buffalo Bills after being claimed off waivers from the Steelers.
“I’ve got a lot of love and respect for that organization over there,” Slay said. “It’s just the fact that, where (I was) at in my career, I was more like, ‘Hey, if I wasn’t going to Philly, I wasn’t probably going nowhere else.’ I didn’t wanna pack up and move. … I’ve got a lot of respect for Josh Allen. I think he’s one of the best quarterbacks in this league, and I do believe they had a great shot at being a championship contender.
“It was just more about me. I didn’t feel like moving. I didn’t feel like packing up. I just really wanted either to go to Philly or go home.”

Rome asked Slay if he’d lace his cleats back up if the Eagles were to call him up.
“There’s not too many people (who are) gonna get me out of retirement,” Slay said. “I’m not pulling a BG (Brandon Graham). … I love Philly. I’m gonna come to a lot of games, though, but nah, I’m not coming out.”
Slay was a first-team Associated Press All-Pro with the Detroit Lions in 2017. He spent the first seven seasons of his career in the Motor City before joining the Eagles, with whom he won Super Bowl LIX.
