A Scranton man is accused of assaulting his girlfriend and threatening in text messages to kill her, police said.

Michael Mata, 25, of 537 N. Garfield Ave., faces charges of harassment and making terroristic threats.

Shania McMillan told officers that the two had been arguing on Feb. 22, which escalated into Mata slapping her on Feb. 23.

She showed officers screen shots of texts Mata sent to her, which included threats such as “I’ll kill you today” and “Don’t make me homicidal,” according to the criminal complaint.

Mata remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on March 30 before District Judge Sean McGraw.
