BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Men’s health is taking the driver’s seat at the Lehigh Valley Auto Show.
After checking out hundreds of cars, men have the option to get free prostate cancer screenings.
“I’d rather be safe than sorry,” said Rick Houser of Allentown.
Houser is no stranger to working in a hospital.
“I’d be the vampire. Take blood from you,” said Houser.
Now he’s walking around with his own bandage.
“It’s something that men should have done every year,” said Houser.
Prostate cancer runs in Houser’s family.
“My numbers are always low,” Houser said.
His spirits are always high, especially after having his PSA blood test done inside the Lehigh Valley Auto Show.
“Everything is good,” Houser said.
His wife waited for him outside of the big yellow curtain, surrounded by cars also waiting for new owners.
“Have a good time, bring your family, and then maybe the wife or the kids nudge you [and say], ‘Hey, get in there and take this little blood test,'” said Houser.
Early detection is key.
“It’s not something that you really think about, right?” said Ben May, president of Pocono Raceway.
As thousands of visitors stroll inside Lehigh University Goodman Campus in Bethlehem, May said it can be a good time to checked.
“Sometimes pairing fun with seriousness grabs people’s attention and says, ‘Hey, look, I can come over to the Leah Valley Auto Show. I can get a picture with the pace truck, and I can look after myself and walk out of here knowing that I’m either healthy or I need to get some follow up,'” said May.
Man Cave Health is joining Pocono Raceway to provide the screenings.
“We meet men where they’re at. We educate them about the process,” said Chris Masters, executive director of Man Cave Health. “Then it sets them off on their health journey.”
Screenings will be available Saturday and Sunday starting at 10a.m. inside the Rauch Fieldhouse.
