The Eagles on Thursday agreed to a one-year contract with veteran running back Dameon Pierce.

Pierce, 26, was a fourth-round pick of the Houston Texans out of Florida in the 2022 and had his best season as a rookie.

In Philadelphia, Pierce will join a running back room that already includes Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, Will Shipley and Carson Steele. Former Eagles running back A.J. Dillon signed with the Carolina Panthers this week.

Pierce is a big, powerful back at 5-foot-10, 215 pounds. As a rookie with the Texans in 2022, Pierce had 220 rushing attempts for 939 yards and 4 touchdowns. Pierce was the Texans’ leading rusher that season.

But since that rookie season, Pierce’s career has tapered off. In 2023, Pierce lost his starting job and rushed for 416 yards, and then rushed for just 293 in 2024.

In 2025, Pierce began the season as the Texans’ third-string running back but was waived in November. He signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad and saw action in one game with 4 carries for 10 yards.

In his four-year NFL career, Pierce has 419 rushing attempts for 1,684 yards and 8 touchdowns. He caught 43 passes in his first two NFL season but has just two receptions since.

Pierce has some experience returning kickoffs too. He has 20 career returns with an average of 32.8 yards per return and he took one 98 yards to the house as a rookie.

One of Pierce’s best games in the NFL came against the Eagles as a rookie in Week 9 of the 2022 season. In that game, he rushed for 139 yards on 27 carries for an average of 5.1 yards per rush. The Eagles beat the Texans 29-17 at NRG Stadium that day.
