Mildred Matos A. Castillo

OBITUARY

Mildred Angela “Millie” Castillo (Matos) passed away peacefully at her home in Bethlehem, PA., on March 16, 2026. Born to Marcial and Aida Matos on April 2, 1955 in Villalba, Puerto Rico. She was proudly raised in Bethlehem, PA.

As a young woman, Mildred was reserved with a sweet, and kind-hearted demeanor, which she carried throughout the entirety of her life. Her thoughtfulness was beyond measure, and she always poured her heart into the lives of others, sometimes before even herself.

Despite her gentle nature, she possessed a depth of strength. She graduated from Liberty High School, and through her own determination and self-reliance, she put herself through business school. She then began her career in the administration offices of Broughal Middle School. Eventually, she was employed by PP&L and had a career that spanned 41 years. Millie started in the Office of General Counsel where she met some of her lifelong friends, and to her merit, her role at retirement was the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Financial Officer of PP&L Services.

Millie may have had professional gains, but undoubtedly felt the greatest blessing bestowed upon her through her work was that she met her husband, Johnny Castillo while employed at Broughal Middle School. Married on September 27, 1975, those who witnessed their love, life, and marriage, were privileged to see their dedication to one another, as they built a lasting marriage of 50 years.

From their union, they were blessed with their son, Elliot Castillo, daughter Elyse Johnson, Son-in-law Matthew Johnson, grandchildren Aliya, Gabriel and Sophia Johnson, and Landry and Sawyer Castillo. Millie was a loyal and proud fan watching her grandchildren’s many activities; rarely missing any sport games, school events and theater productions.

Millie had a great love & gift for gardening with her husband. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach. She also shared a love of reading a good book with her daughter.

Mildred will be sorely missed by her Mother, Aida Matos, her siblings and their spouses: Isabel and Guillermo Lopez; Fernando and DeAnne Matos; Elliot and Lillian Matos; Arnold and Victoria Matos; Jennifer Tidey Matos; Nancy Matos Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, and many nieces and nephews, each of whom she had a unique and close relationship with.

She was preceded in death by her father Marcial Matos II, brother Marcial Matos III, brother Geraldo Matos and nephew Manuel Matos. Mildred will be deeply missed by her family but also by her many friends from the churches she attended, former co-workers, and years of close neighborhood friends. In gratitude, the family recognizes the grace and depth of support her lady friends from the YMCA provided Mildred throughout her journey. We love you Mildred, Millie, Wela & Beloved Wife.
