Paulette McWilliams has long been one of the music industry’s most in-demand voices — a powerhouse talent whose vocals have helped define recordings by icons including Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Luther Vandross, Billy Idol, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige, Quincy Jones, and David Bowie.

Across a remarkable career spanning nearly six decades, McWilliams has built a legacy largely out of the spotlight — until now.

Her story takes center stage in the new documentary, “Paulette McWilliams: In the Back; in the Corner; From the Dark; to the Light,” produced and directed by Angelo Montrone.

As part of the 35th annual Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, fans will have a special opportunity to preview the film on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. in the DoubleTree Amphitheater at the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading.

Following the screening, Montrone, McWilliams, and legendary bassist Marcus Miller — a longtime friend who is featured in the film — will take part in a Q&A session with the audience.

Admission is free.
