LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A Pennsylvania U.S. Postal Service worker has been federally charged with stealing checks from the mail.
Nicholas Pecko, 33, of Vandling, was recently indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of bank fraud and theft of mail, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Pecko is accused of stealing two checks worth a total of $6,581.59, which were supposed to be delivered by the U.S. Postal Office.
The indictment alleges Pecko altered the checks to list himself as the “payee” when he presented them for deposit.
He has not yet been found guilty or sentenced, but the maximum penalty under federal law in this case is 35 years in prison, a term of supervised release, and a fine.
