SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A 17-year-old has been arrested following an armed robbery and reported shooting incident in Scranton.
Police say officers were called to the 700 block of Pittston Avenue Monday evening for reports of gunfire. Around the same time, authorities learned of a robbery at a nearby convenience store.
Investigators say the suspect entered the US Mini Mart with a handgun, took money from the register, and ran from the scene. Officers quickly located a person matching the description and took the suspect into custody after a brief foot chase.
During the incident, police say gunfire was exchanged, but no injuries were reported.
Officers recovered a handgun believed to have been used in the incident, as well as stolen items. Surveillance footage helped confirm the suspect’s identity, according to investigators.
Authorities also say the juvenile may be connected to a similar robbery at the same store earlier this year.
The suspect is facing multiple charges, including robbery and firearms-related offenses. The investigation remains ongoing.
