A video shared by the Allentown Fire Department shows the heroic rescue that took place during a house fire Friday that injured five people.

The video shows a firefighter heading to the two-story home in the 900 block of North Emery Street as smoke billows from front door. The firefighter climbs a ladder onto the second floor and helps a man climb through the window to safety.

“All right, one leg at a time, OK?” the firefighter says as the man makes his way out of the small window. The man was able to make out of the window and down the ladder to reconnect with a woman who had escaped the same window just moments earlier.

A third person was rescued from the rear of the home, the department said. Three others made it out of the building before firefighters arrived.

Five people were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Crews discovered the fire in the basement, and it was quickly brought under control, according to the department. The city fire marshal is investigating the cause.
