BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball team battled back from a four-run deficit to forlgce extra innings, but ultimately fell 7-5 to Colgate in 10 innings Sunday at Leadership Park. Analisa Raffaelli’s two-run home run in the top of the 10th broke a 5-5 tie as the Raiders swept the three-game series by a combined four runs.

Sophomore Kelly Fricker and junior Peyton Sward combined for seven hits at the top of Lehigh’s lineup and drove in all four runs in Lehigh’s sixth-inning comeback.

The Mountain Hawks are now 15-14 overall and 0-3 in Patriot League play, while Colgate improves to 14-15 and 3-0 in league play.

Lehigh scored a run in the home first when Fricker scored after sophomore Lizzie Kern reached on a fielder’s choice.

Colgate, as it did all weekend, used the long ball to take a 5-1 lead. Nora Megenity hit a three-run home run in the second inning and Kayla Martin hit a two-run shot in the third as part of a four-hit day.

The Mountain Hawks loaded the bases with one out in the sixth and Fricker delivered a three-run triple down the left field line. Sward followed with a single through the left side, scoring Fricker to tie the game at 5-5. Lehigh got the go-ahead run to third base but couldn’t bring Sward across as the game remained tied.

Megenity led off the top of the 10th with a double and Raffaelli followed with a home run to center, giving the Raiders the lead.

Both teams finished with 13 hits in the contest. Lehigh left 11 runners on base while Colgate left 14.

Four pitchers appeared in the game for Lehigh with first-year Maddie Masiko starting and giving up four runs over two-plus innings. Junior Maddy Clark went three innings, first-year Addison Moorman threw four scoreless frames and sophomore Madison Finnerty pitched the 10th.

The Mountain Hawks are back home to host Drexel Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to Boston University next weekend.
