The baseball program at Erie High School is off to its best start in 13 years.

The Tigers swept all four of their games at the Coach Bob Invitational in Arizona last week to improve to 7-0, matching their start from 2013. That team won its first seven games and reached 11-1 before stumbling down the stretch, where it lost five of its final nine games and was eliminated ahead of the state tournament.

Erie’s early success this spring is driven by a high-powered offense and stellar pitching, namely from BYU commit Maddox Burnett. The senior ace is starting the season much like he did a year ago, sporting a 1.62 ERA through his first 13 innings. Last season, he went 8-0 before dropping his final two decisions.

Next, the Tigers travel to Centaurus on Saturday morning, aiming for their fifth straight win over the Warriors. A victory would move them to 8-0, marking their best start in at least two decades.

Here’s what to watch this week.

Fairview at Regis Jesuit girls lacrosse, Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Knights (2-1) opened the season with dominant wins over defending 4A champion Evergreen and runner-up Green Mountain before falling to Florida’s Lake Highland Prep, 16-8, on Thursday. Of course, that’s hardly a bad loss, considering Lake Highland is ranked No. 2 in the nation by MaxPreps.

Entering the week, Fairview is ranked eighth in the 5A postseason seeding, while Regis Jesuit sits fourth. Both teams reached the 5A semifinals last season before bowing out.

Holy Family at Mead baseball, Thursday at 4 p.m.

If their respective aces take the mound Thursday, runs may be hard to come by.

Sophomore Kaden Hopkin has struck out 23 of the first 41 batters he has faced this season for the Tigers (5-1), allowing just three runs in 9 1/3 innings. He’s winning his own personal run-differential in 2026, as he has driven in eight runs by himself at the plate and has yet to strike out over his first 21 at-bats.

Mead (5-1) has been led on the mound by senior Kaleb Walter, who has allowed three runs — one earned — and struck out 21 through his first 13 innings.

Niwot at Erie girls soccer, Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Cougars (2-0) have outscored their first two opponents 9-0, while Erie (1-0) opened the spring with a 4-0 win over Frederick.

Poudre School District at Mead girls lacrosse, Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Mavericks, who reached the 4A semifinals last season, opened the spring with a 20-3 win over Pueblo West. Morgan Elson had six goals and three assists in the victory, while Emmy Tecu added four goals and three assists.

Boulder at Fairview girls soccer, Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Knights (1-1-1) will look to regain control of the rivalry after dropping the past two meetings to Boulder (0-1), following a dominant 12-1 stretch against the Panthers.

Erie at Centaurus baseball, Saturday at 11 a.m.

Erie’s Evan Dillinger and Boston Coslett have driven in 13 runs apiece to lead an offense averaging more than 10 runs per game this spring.

Centaurus (3-2) won its first two games in Colorado before going 1-2 at the Coach Bob Invitational. Sophomore Logan Ukleja is 8 for 14 at the plate to start the season.

La Costa Canyon at Fairview boys lacrosse, Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Knights (2-0) are No. 1 in the 5A postseason rankings after opening the spring with runaway wins over Evergreen and Denver East. Senior Kai Modica already has nine goals this season, giving him 127 for his career.
