The Detroit Tigers will open the Major League Baseball season Thursday with infielder Kevin McGonigle on their Opening Day roster.

McGonigle, 21, spent part of the 2025 season with the Erie SeaWolves, hitting .254 with 12 home runs and 41 RBIs in 46 games.

According to MLB.com, he could become the youngest player to start on Opening Day for the Tigers since Omar Infante in 2003.

McGonigle was selected by Detroit in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft as a Competitive Balance Round A pick.
