As a resident of northeastern Pennsylvania, I am deeply concerned by the deteriorating safety of our region’s largest city. Under Mayor Paige Cognetti, Scranton has experienced a startling rise in violent crime, including a spike in homicides and gang activity that has shaken our community. In just the first half of 2024, the city recorded five homicides, surpassing the total for several previous years combined.
Rather than prioritizing the safety of her constituents, Mayor Cognetti has spent her time campaigning for Congress to unseat Rep. Rob Bresnahan. While our neighborhoods grow less secure, she continues to push a radical, out-of-touch agenda. From her past comments about wanting to see a city where police officers do not carry firearms, to her alignment with extreme West Coast policies like open borders and taxpayer-funded health care for illegal immigrants, it is clear her priorities do not reflect NEPA values.
We cannot afford to send this brand of leadership to Washington. Rep. Rob Bresnahan has a proven track record of creating local jobs and actually delivering results for our district. If Mayor Cognetti cannot manage the crime crisis in her own city, she has no business representing the 8th Congressional District. It is time to keep our community safe and keep Mayor Cognetti’s radical agenda out of Congress.
