HARRISBURG, Pa. – A bill to codify marriage equality into law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has cleared an important hurdle.

Today, The Pennsylvania House passed House Bill 1800 with a vote of 127 – 72.

State Rep. Michael Schlossberg, who represents Lehigh County, is a co-sponsor of the bill.

The legislation would essentially repeal outdated language in Pennsylvania law that defines marriage as only between a man and a woman.

Proponents of the bill say it would align state statute with Constitutional protections for marriage equality established by the U.S. Supreme Court.
