The Green Bay Packers had to come to a decision on their wide receiver room once NFL free agency hit. Ultimately, the odd man out was Romeo Doubs out of others like Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed, Christian Watson and Matthew Golden.

Doubs ended up signing with the New England Patriots on a four-year, $68 million contract, with $39 million of that guaranteed.

Doubs leaves the Packers as last year’s leading receiver with 724 yards and six touchdowns. The thought is that with his departure, it can open opportunities for others to shine. Although, the room is still a bit crowded and it could lead to the departure of another receiver — especially if a trade is offered like AtoZ Sports’ Adam Holt is suggesting.

Eagles Floated as Potential Trade Fit for Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks

Though free agency and trades have slowed down, another could pop up at any time — including one involving Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks.

Holt believes Wicks could be a viable trade candidate for the Philadelphia Eagles, especially with uncertainty surrounding A.J. Brown.

“The Eagles have an idea of A.J. Brown’s future but that will stay close to the vest until after the NFL draft,” Holt wrote. “Accordingly, adding another veteran WR to the mix could make some sense, especially if the plan is to trade Brown post-June 1.”

Holt referenced NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry’s report suggesting the Eagles’ confidence in DeVonta Smith could open the door to a potential Brown trade. Philadelphia also added Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore in free agency, but that may not close the door on another move.

“Philly already added both Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore during free agency, but that shouldn’t prevent them from making another acquisition at WR if the value makes sense,” Holt added. “Since the Birds lost Jahan Dotson during the FA period, Wicks can come in and play a role next season alongside DeVonta Smith and the other depth options at the position.”

In Holt’s proposed deal, the Eagles would receive Wicks and a 2027 seventh-round pick, while the Packers would land a 2026 fourth-round pick (No. 137 overall) and a 2027 sixth-round selection.

Packers Could Cash In on WR Depth With Trade Return

That type of return could intrigue the Packers — if they feel comfortable with the remaining talent in their receiver room.

Wicks was a fifth-round pick (No. 159 overall), so flipping him for a fourth-rounder and an additional future pick would be solid value.

Still, the bigger question is whether Green Bay is ready to move on.

The Packers are high on Golden, a first-round selection, and expect him to take a major step forward in Year 2. Watson finished second on the team in receiving last season with 611 yards and six touchdowns.

That leaves Wicks competing most directly with Reed, who is also entering the final year of his deal. Realistically, either player could become expendable depending on how the team evaluates its long-term plans.

Since his rookie season — when he totaled 581 yards and four touchdowns — Wicks’ production has declined. He followed that up with 415 yards the next year, and last season posted just 332 yards and two touchdowns while missing three games.

That combination of declining production and roster depth could make him one of the more logical trade candidates as the Packers continue shaping their roster.
