Kyle Holmes scored five goals to lead a record-setting victory by the University of Scranton men’s lacrosse team, 31-2, over Lycoming College in a Landmark Conference game Wednesday at Weiss Field in Scranton.

The Royals (4-6 overall, 2-0 league) had the game’s first 21 goals on their way to establishing a record for most goals in a game. The previous mark was 28 set March 31, 1998, against New York Maritime and matched April 16, 2022 at Goucher.

Andrew Danowski added four goals for Scranton. Fifteen players scored for the Royals.

Baseball

At Scranton, Old Forge grad Joe Granko had three hits, including a home run, four RBIs and three runs as the University of Scranton handed Wilkes University its first loss in Landmark Conference play, 11-6, at Volpe Field.

Two four-run rallies in the sixth and seventh innings enabled Scranton to overcome a 4-3 Wilkes lead. Vincent Napolitano homered leading off the sixth to tie the game. A wild pitch and an error allowed the next two runs to score before John Heitzman had an RBI single to make it 7-4. Then in the seventh, Granko had an RBI single and Heitzman a three-run double.

Heitzman finished with three hits and five RBIs for the Royals (13-5, 3-1). Napolitano and Conor Campbell also had three hits each.

Nathan Loch and Andres Cruz had two hits apiece for Wilkes (9-7, 6-1).

RCSJ Gloucester 19, Lackawanna 10: At Sewell, New Jersey, Lackawanna College lost to the Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester, the top-ranked team in NJCAA Division III, in a nonregion game halted in the eighth inning because of darkness.

Sean Moore had three hits, two of which were doubles, and one RBI for Lackawanna. Hunter Austra added two hits, while Danny Stickney and Mark Zuppo each had two-run home runs. Jake Virbitsky also had two RBIs for the Falcons (8-11-1).

St. Lawrence 8, Marywood 4: At Scranton, St. Lawrence University jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on its way to stopping Marywood University’s three-game winning streak in a nonleague game.

Ethan Reccek had two hits and two RBIs for the Pacers (10-7). Cam Bott doubled, Adam Ginsberg had an RBI double and Nick Ruiz chipped in an RBI single.

Women’s lacrosse

At Williamsport, Jillian Lopez netted five goals and Grace DiDominica followed with four as the No. 15-ranked University of Scranton rolled past Lycoming College, 24-6, in Landmark Conference action.

Lopez also had four draw controls, giving her 191 for her career and putting her in sole possession of second place in the program record book.

Riley Miller, Delaney Wozniak and Allyson Flynn added two goals apiece for the Royals (6-4, 2-0).
