The Roxborough Development Corporation recently hosted its annual Mutt Madness event at the Pocket Park along Ridge Avenue.

It marked an ongoing tradition as this was the first series launched by the RDC since the park opened in the early 2000’s and the first event at the park since the completion of the newly erected adjacent apartment building.

In addition to the RDC, the Mutt Madness Pet Adoption and Licensing Event event was sponsored by ACCT Philly and State Rep. Tarik Khan’s office.

The family-friendly celebration seeks to find loving homes for dogs, cats, and other pet animals as well as spotlighting animal welfare.

The gathering of pet-friendly organizations and businesses brings people together to celebrate our four-legged friends within this cherished community space that hosts a variety of popular, esoteric events throughout the year.

Animal lovers mark their calendars well in advance to see a cavalcade of wagging tails and curious noses that never seems to disappoint.

Eleven adoptable dogs, brought in by ACCT Philly and Lucky Pups Rescue, were on board to amble around and interact with their human counterparts.

In addition to the animal rescue groups, several vendors had set up tables to provide information about their products or services.

These included Saint Rocco’s Treats, Kani Kouture, Bit of Witz Pet Art, 21-year-old home grown artist Emily Burke, Balloon Buddies, and Steve Teare’s Pet Portraits.

For those working up an appetite, Humpty’s Dumplings was parked right outside along the Ridge to help satisfy any hunger pangs that arose.

To quench any adult thirsts, Top Dog Cocktails offered a full line of spirit-based, ready to drink canned craft potables with such clever monikers as Greyhound, Whiskey Lemonade, Blood Orange Margarita, and Peach Mango Tea.

A community wide pet food drive had amassed a whopping 300 pounds of pet food that was evenly split amongst the pet rescues that were in attendance.

Just goes to show the generosity and soft spot in their hearts that people harbor for our furry little buddies.

RDC Board President Jo Ann Desper was delighted with the turnout for the event, gushing that “Mutt Madness was the perfect kick off for our 2026 Pocket Park Series. Seeing the park filled with families, local businesses, and so many adoptable pets reminds us why investing in these public spaces is so vital for our community spirit.”

State Rep. Tarik Khan, who co-sponsored the event, added this to the glowing reviews. “We had a great time at Mutt Madness, and I’m so grateful to my staff, the Roxborough Development Corporation, ACCT Philly, and all the vendors and partners that made the event so special.”

If you’re looking for the box score on the event’s success, it can be reported that two dogs found loving homes on the spot as well as an overwhelming interest that was generated in finding permanent homes for the others.
