BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Finding the perfect gown is hard, especially since they can cost hundreds of dollars. But on Saturday a conference room at Wind Creek in Bethlehem turned into a Pop-Up Prom Shop filled with racks and racks of gowns in all sizes and colors.

“This year I think we’ve reached over 900 dresses,” said Aliya Ali, Administrative Support Specialist with the YWCA Bethlehem.

Each dress, priced at $20 dollars. It’s all thanks to the YWCA Bethlehem and community sponsors. This is the 19th year the YWCA has held the event.

“You’re happy and excited for this new milestone without having to feel weighted down about the price of it. Am I going to burden my family or things like that,” said Ali.

Thanks to real life fairy godmothers, volunteers like Peggy King with Members First Federal Credit Union, dress shopping is not as stressful.

“I’m hoping that the individuals that participate, they walk away feeling good,” said King. “The moms and daughters, and we even had a few boys come through as well for suits, just walk away feeling good and knowing that they can go to the prom and have a good time.”

Even FeFe from the IronPigs was on hand to help and try on some dresses herself.

Ladies also walked away with the perfect accessories, that included jewelry and makeup.

The proceeds from the dresses will go towards the YWCA Youth Empowerment Programs.
