The Pittsburgh Steelers have not avoided making significant moves throughout the 2026 offseason. Acquiring Michael Pittman Jr., while also signing Jamel Dean to a sizable contract proved that the front office wants to mix things up on both sides of the ball. General Manager Omar Khan has been relatively aggressive since taking over the front office, so there could be more unexpected transactions coming. The depth chart has started to round out; however, holes remain and it will be interesting to see how the organization goes about completely filling out the unit.

DK Metcalf and Pittman should form a rather intimidating duo. Both pass-catchers are roughly 6’4″ and play a physical brand of football. It seems as if that is how the roster is going to be constructed overall, so with the 2026 NFL Draft approaching, fans should not be surprised when and if the franchise continues to bring in big bodies that can dominate opponents.

During the Scouting Combine, it was reported that the Steelers were consistently meeting with wide receivers. In fact, over a dozen of the 45 allowed interviews occurred with pass-catchers. It has been roughly a month since the event, and prospects are still just now revealing that Pittsburgh showed interest, further emphasizing Khan’s desire to select one, or multiple.

Justin Melo of Sports Illustrated had a chance to speak with a wideout who is quickly rising on draft boards. When talking with Texas Tech playmaker Caleb Douglas, the Steelers were the first team mentioned.

“I had a formal interview at the NFL Combine with the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Douglas told Melo. “I met on Zoom with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Miami Dolphins, to name just a few. I’ve had meetings with the Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, and Jacksonville Jaguars.”

At 6’4″, Douglas has a large frame and an impressive collegiate career to talk with executives about. In his final two seasons, he played in 27 games, hauling in a total of 114 passes for 1,723 yards and 13 touchdowns. This is a very respectable run that put him on the NFL’s radar. Now, Pittsburgh is confirmed to have done its due diligence on yet another large wide receiver.

Douglas wanted to make sure that he got a very specific point across in regards to his future team. He wants that organization and the fans of the specific franchise to know that he is going to be a hard-worker who consistently does what is necessary to win football games.

“You’re getting a guy who is going to give 110% effort on every single play,” Douglas noted to Melo. “I’m going to make spectacular plays on offense. I’m going to do my job at a high level.”

Douglas was trending toward being a fifth- or sixth-round selection, but a front office that likes him enough might not hesitate to draft him in round four. The Steelers have a plethora of picks, so forcing any specific one is unlikely to occur. If Khan and co. do like what Douglas has to offer, he could end up in the Steel City if the timing works out. It really all depends on when the Steelers’ brass has plans to invest even more into the position.

Steelers Not At All Hiding Desire To Go After Wide Receivers

Pittsburgh still has only four wideouts on the depth chart following the acquisition of Pittman. The free agency pool has dwindled down and Khan is expected to go after the position once the NFL Draft begins. Based on the previously reported meetings at the Scouting Combine, the organization is fully invested in rounding out the room with talent, and not necessarily late-round selections. Douglas can now be added to a long list of pass-catchers that Pittsburgh is keeping a close eye on.
