‘Bucco Brick’ Plaques now on display nearly one year after controversy

“Bucco Bricks” have returned in a new way, nearly one year after the famed bricks were pulled from the ground and removed from outside PNC Park. I like how they did that,” one Pittsburgher said, walking along PNC Park on Monday. “It looks more professional.” “I’m glad the bricks are back,” another said. “We did this brick in honor of my dad when he died. We’re very excited it’s back up there again. The plaques come after hundreds of personalized, commemorative bricks were removed from the ground outside PNC Park during last year’s offseason. The bricks were previously located near the Wagner statue and were replaced by slabs of white concrete.The bricks were sent to a landfill for recycling, which upset fans who had an emotional attachment to the stones. Last spring, Pittsburgh Pirates Owner Bob Nutting issued an apology, saying the organization fell short of representing “you, representing the community and all our fans.” The plaques, which now hang on display, feature the same elements of the Bucco Bricks, showcasing commemorative pavers categorized by year.
