READING, Pa. – It was a night of inspiration and charity at the DoubleTree Hotel in Reading.

That’s where the Olivet Boys and Girls Club’s annual “Leaders and Legends” fundraising dinner was held Monday.

The night included performances by club members, awards and a speech from the keynote speaker.

This year’s speaker was former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Herm Edwards.

He said the event hit home for him, as a former member of his hometown Boys and Girls Club.

“When you think about the Boys and Girls Club, you think about a place where — the mentorships that go on there — the staff members that are involved with these kids everyday, in their everyday lives, is very important,” Edwards said. “It’s a significant place; it really is.”

“They’re the fabric of America, to be quite honest,” he said.

Edwards met with children at the Boys and Girls Club ahead of Monday night’s dinner. He told them to have the courage to bet on themselves.
