JES Shapiro Book Discussion

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro is set to visit Erie on Tuesday for a public conversation centered on his new book, an event that quickly reached capacity after being rescheduled earlier this year.

Shapiro will appear at the Jefferson Educational Society for a discussion on his New York Times bestselling book, “Where We Keep the Light: Stories From a Life of Service.” The book reflects on his personal life, political career, and key moments during his time in office.

Shapiro, elected governor in 2022, previously served as Pennsylvania’s attorney general and as a state representative.

The event is free to the public, but demand surged immediately after registration opened.

“It sold out in like 96 minutes. The thirst for knowledge and understanding is at an all‑time high here in the area based on what we were seeing,” said Dr. Ferki Ferati, president of the Jefferson Educational Society.

The governor’s visit was originally scheduled for February but was postponed due to inclement weather. It now comes at a time when Erie is preparing for a series of major events leading into 2026, including community celebrations tied to the region’s history, arts, and waterfront.

“There’s a lot of planning that’s happening here in the community to have additional celebration… the art museum, and all these folks that are gonna be part of a huge celebratory event in 2026,” Ferati said.

Organizers say Shapiro’s appearance helps build momentum and highlights Erie as a hub for civic engagement and community connection.

The event begins at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5. All registration options — including virtual access — are sold out.
