Drivers in Lehigh County should prepare for lane restrictions and potential delays as PennDOT begins multiple road work projects this week.

The most significant work involves construction on Interstate 78 East between Exit 57 (Lehigh Street) and Exit 60 (Route 309) in Allentown, Salisbury, and Upper Saucon townships. Lane restrictions will be in effect nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, with delays expected. Rain may cause additional delays for this project, which is being completed by a PennDOT contractor.

Several other Interstate 78 projects are also scheduled. The westbound ramp to Route 100 South (Exit 49) in Upper Macungie Township will be closed and detoured from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday. The detour will direct drivers to continue on I-78 West to Exit 45 (PA 863), then return eastbound to Exit 49A (Route 100 South).

Additional nighttime lane restrictions are planned on I-78 West near Exit 49 in Upper Macungie Township on Tuesday and Wednesday, and on Route 22 West between Route 309 and I-78 from Thursday through Friday. All nighttime work will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Bridge repair work on Limeport Pike between Greene Lane and Saucon Valley Road in Upper Saucon Township will require lane restrictions with flagging from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday

PennDOT maintenance crews will also conduct pothole patching on Kernsville Road in Lowhill Township between Routes 100 and 309, and on Donats Peak Road in Lynn Township between Allemaengel Road and a closed bridge. Both projects run Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lane restrictions.
