As the war in Iran continues, consumers are paying more and more at gas pumps across the country.
Per AAA, the national gas price average sat at $4.018 on March 31. This is the first time since 2022 that the national average has pushed past the $4 mark.
Here’s a breakdown of where Philadelphia stands compared to the national average, and what consumers in the city are saying about the price hike.
How much is gas in Philly? Gas price in Philadelphia today
On the AAA retail map, Pennsylvania’s average price for regular gas was $3.976 per gallon on March 31, and diesel was averaging $5.918 per gallon.
On a county breakdown, Philadelphia County saw an average of $4.041 per gallon and AAA recorded the Philadelphia metro average for regular gas sat at $4.029 per gallon.
Philadelphia consumers react to gas prices
When asked about gas prices on the rise across the country and in Philadelphia, Andre Williams, 20, called it “ridiculous.”
At the Exxon gas station off of Bainbridge and Broad streets, Williams was filling his 2017 Chevy Malibu, an expense that he said used to run about $40. Now, he’s shelling out $60.
Who’s to blame? Williams, who’s opting to take the bus or train on occasion, said, “our current president.”
Daniel Perez, 37, agreed while hitting up the pumps where regular gas had risen to $4.19 per gallon on Tuesday.
“I feel like it’s terrible. I feel like it’s definitely Trump’s fault,” Perez said.
The motorist also mentioned the war in Iran, calling it “totally ridiculous.”
He had stopped to put gas in his Honda CRV while getting his bike repaired across the street, a method of transportation he said he’ll be utilizing more since he’s “trying not to drive at all.”

How much is gas near me? How to check gas prices
In addition to the AAA average maps, resources like GasBuddy show consumers where they can find gas at certain prices in their area.
GasBuddy’s heat map showed prices in and around Philadelphia ranging from $3.85 per gallon of regular gas to as much as $4.49.
