READING, Pa. – A family is putting out a plea for help to find a missing woman with ties to Berks County. Carol Gemmiti went missing during a family vacation in New Hampshire 18 months ago.

“I don’t know how I got home,” said Donald Gemmiti, Carol’s husband. “I don’t remember coming into the house.”

Donald Gemmiti recalled returning home to Florida after a nightmare vacation.

“It was going to be a family reunion,” he said.

During their time at a cottage in the quiet town of Ossipee, New Hampshire, Donald says his wife, Carol — a Birdsboro native — walked off, unseen and unheard.

“I think she went for a walk with the intention of coming back because when she left, she didn’t have her phone. She had no money, no ID. Basically disappeared,” Gemmiti said.

According to her husband, the then-66-year-old Carol was not familiar with the area.

“I think she just wandered off. And we thought possibly the lake,” Gemmiti said.

Search efforts have turned up empty. Neither K-9s nor sonar found any trace. Now, her devoted husband fears the worst.

“Somebody could have stopped and possibly said, ‘You want a ride?’” Gemmiti said.

Carol remains missing. Police say there are no new leads and they are contacting the FBI. As the weather warms, they prepare to search the lake again.

“Carol, we miss you dearly, and we love you,” Gemmiti said.

Donald says he’ll never give up hope that Carol will come home.

“She was being treated for depression and anxiety, and she also, I believe, had some dementia,” Gemmiti said.

Her spirit brought joy to all around her, especially during her time at Berks Encore.

“Carol was a compassionate person that worked with seniors. She loved what she did,” Gemmiti said.

Anyone who has information about Carol’s whereabouts is asked to contact police.

“We want you to come home. We’re here for you as a family,” Gemmiti said.
