The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders rallied from a two-run deficit to tie the score in the top of the eighth, but Trey Lipscomb’s RBI double in the bottom of the eighth sent the Rochester Red Wings to a 5-4 victory Wednesday at ESL Ballpark.
Jasson Domínguez had a leadoff homer, and Max Schuemann’s sacrifice fly gave the RailRiders (2-2) a 2-0 lead.
Dylan Crews had a sac-fly in the bottom of the first before Rochester opened it up in the bottom of the fifth. Lipscomb tied the game with a solo homer to left field, Yohandy Morales added another solo homer and Harry Ford hit a double to left to score Christian Franklin for a 4-2 lead.
The RailRiders rallied when Payton Henry hit an RBI single to score Yanquiel Fernández in the sixth, and Braden Shewmake tied it with an RBI single to score Duke Ellis in the eighth.
However, Lipscomb’s RBI double and Orlando Ribalta’s 1-2-3 inning gave the Red Wings (3-1) the victory.
The series continues Thursday at 6:05 p.m. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s Elmer Rodriguez and Rochester’s Andrew Alvarez are the probable pitchers. Friday will be a doubleheader starting at 1:05 p.m. to make up for Tuesday’s rainout.
