Alyce R. DeAntona, 74, of West Scranton, died early Wednesday at Celebration Villa in Peckville.  She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph E. DeAntona.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Ray and Helen Edwards Rosengrant, she was a graduate of West Scranton High School and had been employed by the Scranton School District prior to her retirement.  She had also worked as a receptionist for Studio RD after her retirement, and as a teller for the West Side Bank in her younger years. But no matter where she was working, she was never just an employee. She was the one people were looking forward to seeing and the one running the show.   In her younger years, she was an avid reader and always enjoyed crossword puzzles. Her childhood summers at the family home on Lake Winola sparked a deep love for boating and waterskiing, which she proudly showed that she could still do at the age of 67! She and her husband Joe also traveled to Hollywood, Florida every year to visit with her lifelong friends, Mame and Tony Masiulis. Some of her best times were had on these trips that got longer every year and always gave her something to look forward to.

Alyce was vivacious and the life of every party.  She loved the music of the 50s and 60s, especially Elvis, and was known as a wonderful dancer, particularly when it came to the jitterbug.  When she was home, she could be found in her garden, cooking amazing meals for her family or enjoying a Lifetime movie.  She loved shopping, stopping at Manning’s for her ice cream, and just making her rounds around West Side, the community she was so proud to be a part of.  But more than anything, she loved her family and friends and always made sure they could feel her love. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and in their presence, she found her truest happiness. For how much she loved, she was loved just as much in return. Her door was always open, and when you needed someone for anything, she was the call you made. To know her was to love her. It is hard to find the words to truly express how much she will be missed.

In addition to her husband, Joe, she is survived by sons Craig “CC” Mailen and wife Tina, and Marc DeAntona and wife Crystal; stepson Joseph DeAntona and wife Lisa, and their children Bonnie Ann and Joseph, and stepson Michael DeAntona; her treasured grandchildren, Mason DeAntona and Emersyn Rae Mailen; her siblings, Linda Voris, Rae Ann Umlah and husband Joseph, Barbara Lemoncelli and husband Jay, Paul Rosengrant and fiancé Lisa, and Lori Stetzar and husband William; brother-in-law Paul DeAntona and wife Gayle; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of people who were lucky enough to call her their friend.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law Marguerite DelPrete and Mary Ann Coray; a niece Caryn Umlah; brother-in-law Clement Voris; and her dearest friend Mary Lou “Pudgie” Genova.

The funeral will be Monday, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. at the Basilica of St. Ann, 1233 St. Ann Street, West Scranton.  Interment will be private in Cathedral Cemetery.
