There is a new push to allow more teenagers to go hunting deer in Erie County.
Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro presented a new local law he is backing to the legislature on Thursday.
Currently, New York state allows 12- and 13-year-olds to hunt deer when accompanied by a mentor, but each individual county has to opt in, and Erie County currently does not.
They are the only county in upstate New York that has not opted in.
The state DEC, in a recent report, backs Todaro’s push.
According to the DEC, there have been zero hunting-related incidents involving 12- and 13-year-olds in the past five years.Â
